How to Apply | Computer Requirements

To apply to become a part of UNL's Meat Culinology® Certificate program, follow these steps:

Step 1:
You must be accepted into UNL's undergraduate Meat Culinology' Certificate program. Admittance into the program requires a minimum of a two-year associate degree from an accredited institution in a related field or a high school diploma, GED and experience.

Please note: Acceptance into the certificate program does not necessarily constitute acceptance into the University of Nebraska-Lincoln College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources or the College of Education and Human Sciences.

Apply by submitting a Non-Degree Undergraduate Certificate Form found at http://admissions.unl.edu/apply. Be sure to include your e-mail address on the application form. Submit a $45 check or money order made payable to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln along with the form printed from the Web site. A complete admissions guide with forms may also be obtained by contacting Undergraduate Admissions.

Admissions will notify you of your Personal Identification Number (PIN) neede for registering.

UNL's Animal Science Department will notify you of acceptance or rejection. If accepted, Admissions will send you a NU Identification Number.

There is no application deadline.

Step 2:
Register for courses.

You may register online with UNL's eNRoll system. You will find more information about these registration systems at http://www.unl.edu/regrec/registration/enroll.shtml. You will need your PIN number and 9-digit student ID number ready in order to register. You will also need the four-digit call number of the class you want to register for. The call number can be found either online or in a printed catalog.

Step 3:
Order your textbooks.

You may order textbooks from the University Bookstore. You will need the department, course number and section number to find the right textbook(s). You may buy online and select to have your books mailed to you or you may pick them up at the bookstore.

Step 4:
Know where and how to access your course.

Access to the Internet and e-mail is required for this program. Plan ahead by arranging to use a computer with Internet access and by obtaining and testing an e-mail account so that you will be able to participate. All distance education students are eligible to obtain a free e-mail account from UNL. Contact Information Services for more information on obtaining an e-mail address. See also Computer Requirements below.

Note: Non-degree matriculation remains open as long as a student is enrolled. If a student does not enroll for a calendar year, the matriculation is closed. If the student wishes to resume coursework, he/she must fill out an updated non-degree application form and submit it to Admissions for permission to enroll. No additional application fee is required.

Operating Systems
Windows 2000 and up or MacOS X 10.2 and up are strongly recommended. Older operating systems (Windows 98SE/ME, MacOS 8/9) or alternative platforms (Linux) are all compatible but may not have full functionality. My.UNL is not currently compatible with handheld devices or web-enabled phones.

Web Browsers
Javascript and cookies must be enabled. Some content or features may require additional software. Pop-up blockers should be disabled for My.UNL. The browsers below are officially supported.
. Internet Explorer: 5.5 or higher (Windows) or version 5.2 (OS X)
. Netscape: Version 7.1 or higher
. Safari
. Firefox 1.0

Older versions of the above or alternative browsers (such as Mozilla and Opera) may be compatible, but some features might not be available. To download the latest browsers, click the "help" button in My.UNL and access the downloads area.

Can I use AOL with My.UNL (Blackboard)?
While you can use AOL as your service provider, you cannot use the AOL Web browser to access My.UNL (Blackboard). If you try to use the AOL browswer, you will find that it will automatically log you out every few minutes and you will experience problems with some of Blackboard's services including assessments (tests and quizes).

Therefore, if you are an AOL user, once you've connected to the Internet, use a different Web browswer to access the Internet. We recommend a newer version of Internet Explorer or Netscape. Other browsers such as Firefox also work very well.

To download a newer browser, click on the "help" button in My.Unl and go to the downloads area.
